I was wondering how long INS approvals are running these days. We have adopted internationally twice before. The first time it took about 4-6 weeks. The second time we got our approval in 2 weeks! I'm wondering if it's because we had already adopted once before.
We are now looking to adopt our third child. It has been 6 years since we were approved by INS the last time. I was wondering how the process is running now and if anyone thinks it could be faster since we probably already have a file with them from our other adoptions.
(Being hopeful here =)

What I would start either asking or looking to now?
Depending on your Agency?
Some Agencies require that you stay with a Host Family.
Yunona does not tell you a whole lot of info!
If you have some or any flexibility with this? there are 2 or 3 bedroom apartment rentals that are very reasonable either by the day or month.
The advantages of this compared to an Hotel room is it gives you more space and freedom to move around! It also saves a lot of money with going out to eat costs most are equipped with a kitchen and washer and dryer.
We tried to experience the new food and Culture as much as possible, so I can't answer about the Chicken Nuggets!

hahaha....well i guess it's time to expand the 3 year olds horizons...but i saw on the web they eat alot of horsemeat!Yuckkk! Actually Valerie did mention that if i were to bring the
kids to let her know and they would set us up...i wonder what the
apt's go for a month?...what ever's reasonable...this is getting
kind of expensive....we thought the homestudy was only 5-1500$$.....wrong!another inaccurate site...anyways I am trying to get the I-600a form in...they came all stapled together...do you know if we're suppose to send the whole packet together?...I think we
send the other stuff later right?...oh brother...I'm getting screwed
up now between the paper work and everything else...
The entire packet goes in together! It's also better to hand deliver or carry it!
I tried submitting the I-600 A. I was waiting on I only needed a letter of verification of employment for Homestudy.
BCIS returned it and said it had to be submitted with the Homestudy.
Someone else who has 'Closer Ties' with BCIS was told to submit a few weeks or not too far ahead of Homestudy?
They were told that all that it will do without the Homestudy is sit on a Desk!

We submitted our I600-A form in january of this year, our homestudy was not completed until May and I hand delivered it to the INS office in June. I spoke with someon on the phone their last week and she said it would be a few more weeks, I was told by my SW that it could take 3-5 months to get the approval. In the meantime we are on a waiting list in an orphange in India and our dossier is all complete. I am hoping to get both the INS approval and the child referral any day now. I am in California so I have it heard the INS take different time depending on your location. Good Luck to all of us, what a process to go thru, Anu
Hi Anu,
I hope you didn't submit your INS in San Jose!!! I read somewhere that it is "dead last" in the list of review of INS offices across the country with regards to speediness, courtesy, and response time to e-mails and phone calls. And I have to go thru them. Hopefully, they have changed. Congratulations on getting this far with your paperwork. In no time you are OFF to pick-up your baby.

Oh my God!!!! I finally completed my autobiography...like 12 pages later...down loaded it to a disc x 3..(I heard the clicking)
and lost it again for the 2nd time!!Does anyone have any ideas?
this is driving me crazy!!I want to get this thing out of my house and into the hands of the proper people!
Hey...I'm wondering if we adopt an older child along with a 1 yr. old...will my 3 yr. old have issues? I have 2 bio sons (1+3) and
my husband seems to think if we adopt someone older than him
then there might be turf issues...does anyone have any experience with this? I thought he'd be glad to have a play mate...but maybe that's just how us girls think...It would be nice
to help out one of the older children...I'm thinking maybe 5-9 or so...and also...how quickly do they pick up the language?

Hi, Kazbaby,
I saw your post. We're adopting from Sierra Leone, and we moved halfway through the process (luckily into the Sacramento INS area, I might add!) I know from doing this that you have to go through the office that is geographically closest to you in YOUR state. I just received BCIS approval, but based on our OLD info; evidently it crossed in the mail with our certified letter to Reno BCIS asking them to forward our file to Sacramento. What to do now? Who knows! One thing's for sure...if you expect everything to go smoothly, you're in for a big surprise! LOL! But at least we're one step closer (I guess!?)
Elena
Hey Elena,
Just caught you. We are almost done with HS and so, it will go to San Jose BCIS soon. We are hearing they are getting much faster (2-3months). Not bad considering I heard 2-9 months. Congratulations on BCIS approval - it should go downhill from here!!! Keep us up to date on when you are leaving. By the way, can you list exactly what the dossier requirements are for KAZ? I assume that's where you're going. I'm getting confused with HS paperwork and dossier - do we need medical, character refs, employment verification to be notarized also?
Hope you're still there.

Why is it that everyone has been telling me that the Tampa office is so slow!! I am a single female, and adopting from thew Ukraine. I need to get my approval so that I can go there before the end of the year, since I hear the laws are changing for singles! Anyone know If there is a # that I can call and try to tell my story?
Thanks
