If you have your non-identifying information stating that you have American Indian heritage you can petition the Superior County to release identifying information from your adoption file. Federal Law, Indian Child Welfare Act, Title 25, provides the following information:
"Upon the request of the adopted Indian child over the age of eighteen, the adoptive or foster parents of an Indian child, or an Indian tribe, the Secretary shall disclose such information as may be necessary for the enrollment of an Indian child in the tribe in which the child may be eligible for enrollment or for determining any rights or benefits associated with that membership. Where the documents relating to such child contain an affidavit from the biological parent or parents requesting anonymity, the Secretary shall certify to the Indian child's tribe, where the information warrants, that the child's parentage and other circumstances of birth entitle the child to enrollment under the criteria established by such tribe."
When petitioning the Superior Court for your sealed adoption file under the ICWA (Indian Child Welfare Act) be sure that you do the following:
contact the county court where the adoption was finalized
request a copy of their petition form for their county.
fill out the form giving all information requested
attach a copy of your non-identifying information stating that you have American Indian heritage
attach a copy of your driver's license
have your signature on the petition form notarized before signing and mailing
Keep a copy of everything for your records

I recently got court orders to open my records.
I received two papers from Office of Vital Records from Sacramento.
It contained my original Birth Certificate and record of adoption.
I was going to place my name and what not but not sure if the rules say I can't do that or not......
My next step is to get records from social services and see what they have.
Thanks
Aaron
I received my records from social services and can't find the forum rules to find my Bmom (put name etc on thread.....)
After a tedious battle with San Francisco Co. Social Services, I got a file about 2 1/2 - 3" thick.
