It's very encouraging to us that we were able to find this forum! What a resource!
Is Elaine still around? I read an archived post of hers where she states the exact same perdicament that we are in.
We are still at the starting gates that lead to adoption because we are not sure how to proceed. Hubby is ad AF, and we are stationed on Okinawa in Japan. It is our hope to adopt a non-special needs infant girl from China.
After extensive research online, we have found (it appears) an agency that is willing to work with us. However, we are desperately searching for a way to get the home study done. How do we go about getting this accomplished?
If you have any information pertaining to agencies dealing in Okinawa, please share them.
Thank you so much,
Venessia~

Thanks so much Lyndsi, for taking the time to reply. And hello up there! Quite the stormy week, eh?
We are still searching for a homestudy provider. There is a lady here who has done homestudies for adoption for many years. Unfortunately, she said that CCAA (China) is requiring the homestudy provider to be IN the States. She said that China just made this a requirement late last year. If she is correct, then we are going to have a MUCH harder time locating someone. Randy Barlow does homestudies for Americans living overseas doing an international adoption, and he comes very highly recommended, but he lives in Germany. Having made contact with him, he is willing to do ours, too, but if the lady here cannot do it (because she lives outside of the States), then how can his homestudy be valid? Ugh! I need the answer to this question really badly.
I also heard that Seoul is really back-logged with I-600A applications, so it is taking six months to get your 171. :( So discouraging! I want my daughter yesterday! This is looking like it may take a very long time!
So, if the homestudy is only valid for 12 months, then how will it be valid long enough to complete the adoption? It seems to me that it will take much more than a year to do all of this. Half of that time just waiting for the I-600A approval.
Whatever insight you can share would be absolutely wonderful,
Venessia~
How are things comming along? We are going to try to adopt through our church, but we need to find a social worker that is Nationaly Certified. The case worker said that we should get the same social worker to do our homestudy and post-placement. Let me know how it goes with you. I just looked at Randy's website. Maybe if he can do yours then he could swing on up here and do mine. Good luck.
