We are in the process of adopting a 7day old baby. Both b-parents are 17 and the b-father's mother is trying to stop the adoption. Not to take care of the child because she has MS and is wheelchair bound. Can she stop the adoption? Both of our attorneys are in court right now and I just wanted to see if anyone knew.
Thanks

well, they can influence the birth parents choices... but technically most states don't have any grandparents laws.
It sounds like she wants to be a grandma. Have you thought about an open adoption arrangement with her?
We have that with our son's paternal birth grandparents and for us its working out really well. They had a real hard time with baby being up for adoption and not knowing how he was or where he was.. its a grief thing there for them too. We see them once a month to every two months.
Anyhow, might be if you were open to knowing her, it might be she just wants to be invovled in the baby's life and if that were open to her, she might not be so upset by the adoption.
Just a thought, good luck to ya!
