Hi all,
I'm hoping someone here can answer a question. We're in MD, Montgomery county to be specific. My husband and I are hoping to adopt internationally. We have 3 biological children, boys 6,4 and 2. The home we live in currently only has 3 bedrooms, so a child that we would adopt would share a room with the youngest boy. Does anyone know the requirements as far as # of bedrooms, square footage of the home etc... Is this something that might prevent us from adopting a child? We have plans to build a home in the next 3 to 4 years at which point the children would have their own rooms, but in the meantime??
Thanks for any advice!!

All of adoption agencies that we have been looking into are in Montgomery county- we are looking international also. I can't remember where I read it but somewhere I read that a "normal" size room can have 2 children. So sharing a room shouldn't be a problem. But I can't remember if that is country specific. We have 3 info meetings set up with different agencies and I will try to remember to ask that question.

We're in MD also, actually in Southern MD (PG County). We are adopting domestically but I remember at one of our intake meetings that they would "prefer" (not sure if it was mandatory) that the children sharing a room be the same sex, unless the child was an infant. Something seems to stick out in my mind about if the children were of a differenct sex, then it would be acceptable until the child was 2 or 3. I can't exactly remember and please don't quote me on it.
I'm sure you could call the agency anonymously and ask them about their policy. We actually knew that we would be moving to a larger home and were told by our agency that it would be best to wait until we moved. But I think in your case, I don't see why it would be a problem. We also have four bio sons aged from 15 down to 8 and we are waiting to be matched with a baby girl.
Good luck to you! kllee
