I am a foster/adoptive parent in Arkansas. It's exciting to know that one of these sweet kids is going to have a permanent family pretty soon. We have fostered 28 kids in just over years. One of them we just adopted in may and another one we will be aopting in Oct.
We have only lived here in Arkansas for 2 1/2 years. I can tell you that Arkansas is a beautiful state. Very green and lakes everywhere you look. The people are very friendly. The kids have that southern hospitality and when they talk to adults they say miss and Mr before your first name and say mam and sir. They have a cute little Arkansas Hick accent and the way they say things are really cute...like ya'll and buggy (shopping cart) and other cute little things i can't remeber right now.
One the down side, Arkansas is filled with trailer parks and mobile homes. There is a big Meth. problem here and most of the kids come from either drug homes or environmental neglect (very unlivable homes).
I assume your child you are adopting was in fostercare or you are adopting a baby from a birthmother. If the child was in fostercare make sure to get the names and numbers of the fosterparents he/she had. They will be more than helpful in providing info. on that child. In some cases you can even speak to grandparents and ask for baby pictures or other things.
Good luck on your adoption. Hope i was a little helpfull.

Thank you for replying. Our son has lived in AZ for the last 2-3 years. He does not remember Arkansas; that is why I was hopeing "ya all" would share info. with me. I kind of like it when kids use "Sir" and "Mam". I think it sounds very cute, and it is respuctful. Anyay, thax.
If anyone else is willing to share, please do. It will help me help my son find out who he is.
I am 27 years old and have lived in Arkansas all my life. I guess you could say I'm about as Southern as they come. Some of us have a strong Southern accent, stronger than others. We do say 'sir' and 'ma'am' when addressing our elders, and we do say 'Mr' and 'Miss'. For example, the kids of our friends call me 'Miss Laura'. I was brought up to respect my elders -- most children in Arkansas are. People tend to think of us as hillbillies and that there's nothing here, but nothing could be further from the truth. Sure, you see the Confederate flags here and there, but we're proud to be Southern and we are patriotic. We live in one of the most beuutiful states in the Union. Until you've seen the beauty of Mount Magazine and Cedar Falls at Petit Jean Mountain, you haven't seen Arkansas. And you can't forget Hot Springs National Park! And there's also Eureka Springs, Arkansas' "Little Switzerland" and the Honeymoon Capital of the World. It's so romantic -- I highly recommend a trip there! Hope I have helped, and good luck on your adoption!:D
