Is there ever a question about something in the paperwork/recordds that you have entirely missed? Or how about a question you wish you had asked and realized months later you didn't?
When DH and I recieved a call regarding our possible interest in 3 girls we made an appointment to go down to the county and reveiw the paperwork. My husband and I were handed 3- 3 inch binders, one for each sibling (3 girls). Quite a bit to digest. Things were set up so that DH and I could sit in the conference room to review the paperwork/ records/stuff on our own and then have a Q & A with both our CW and the girl's CW. Both CW's work in the same county office and the family had been very well known to the county before they were taken into state custody last year, so both are very familiar with the facts of these poor children's lives.
DH and I poured over the 3 binders, passing them back and forth the best we could for 2 hours. I felt comfortable with everything, I dug for family details, reasons for removal etc. DH being a special ed teacher, immediately goes to school records, the psych tests, evaluations, IQ scores and any other intelligence "stuff".
We had our Q & A afterwards with the CW's and were pretty satisfied we had the information we were seeking. They were even truthful enough to provide facts on two medical problems two of the girls had just been diagnosed with. The youngest child was about to undergo a surgical procedure and they even gave us a copy of the brochure explaining how the procedure worked, what it did, etc.
I feel confident in that the sibling's paperwork was extremely well organized, whereas in our previous debacle we were handed separate reports of many different kinds (just various pieces of paper stapled together actually), but never anything like a "total package".
When our CW called today to see if we were still interested (2 weeks ago we were told they were not going to be placed, but stay in the group home where they are now) she must have asked me 4 times if there were anymore questions about the girls and I just could not think of any.
But, I guess there is always that nagging thought in my head, what did we miss? Perhaps having been through a previous bad experience where we were not shown "all" of the child's paperwork, I am leery?
