I'm also very interested in Moldova, but I haven't heard anything encouraging. My agency has been saying for some time that they hope to be re-accredited there by early Fall 2004. I have a friend whose little girl was adopted there in 1999/2000 -- and what a gorgeous, happy child she is! I have heard the orphanage care is of a very high quality. This probably isn't very helpful, but you're not alone in hoping that something will start to break loose soon!

We had planned to adopt from Moldova and were anxiously awaiting "the call". We had everyting done. We were told that adopting a baby under 1 year was no problem at all-we needed that age due to our daughter being 2 at the time. Our agency majorly dropeed the ball and we found out by accident that the country is adopting only 2 and older. They also said that referrals are so very slow. We got a very bad vibe about the entire situation. We decided to go to Russia. We brought home our 8 month old baby boy one month ago-he is so incredible. I would watch out for the "truths" of Moldova!
Referral time is variable.Children under 2 have been adopted out of Moldova in the past year.If you are interested in discussing Moldova, you can PM me for info on another listserve that talks about Moldova adoption.
Jennymac, there is no law in Moldova that says only children over 2 can be adopted. Your information is wrong. The law is that children must be offered domestically for 6 months and then can be put onto an international register, just like many other EE countries.
There are reputable agencies that work in Moldova.
