Hello everyone!
I was wondering if anyone can give some ideas to raise funds for adoption costs families have.
Also, I' dlike to know if there are any military families out there that have been or are going through the International Adoption Process and can give me info of funds available for military families, and also for special needs children adoptions.
If there is someone that could recommend an Adoption Agency to us that would be great.
And one last question, I already understand the process, but, I was wondering if we have to go with a local International Adoption Agency or if there is a way to contact via phone, fax and email with these people? How does it work?
Thanks so much for any info!

I don't personally know of any particular ways to raise funds except the obvious like asking your church for help. What we personally did was to take out a loan against our 401-k. Over a few years (you can choose 1 to 5 years) we pay ourselves back. That is the nice thing about that-- it is our money and the interest we pay on the loan also goes back into our 401K. It turned out to be the simplest, easiest solution for us and we don't even have to go into debt to afford the cost of adoption.
As far as agencies, I think alot of people work "long distance" with their chosen agency. We are going independent so we chose someone who will proof all our docs and can recommend their facilitator/translator to us. Super low cost for independent and we absolutely love them! They already feel like family. And we also are two time zones away from them, so it's all done by phone, fax and email. And even still, they always get back to us the same day we have Qs. I don't think finding a local international agency is of any great atvantage; the important thing is to find the very best people to work with you!!!
Follow your heart and keep everyone posted.

Hello to everyone, And, God Bless your families. I am new to this Forum. My husband and I want to adopt a child from Ukraine. We are looking for a boy younger than 5. We have two girls 13 and 6. I am originally from Russia and moved to U.S. 10 years ago. Can someone explain me how to go as an independent?and may be provide info how to find a good facilitator? Thanks, julia1717@sbcglobal.net
I am using an agency, but there is a lady called Cathy Harris that I think helps people with independent adoptions from Ukraine. Several people have spoken extremely highly of her on the yahoo boards and I think you can find her information at www.ukrainianangels.orgShe has adopted 5 children from UKraine herself and has helped bring home over 1000 children, so she certainly has the experience. It would be worth checking on her Good Luck Jane
