Looking for family of Capt. Thompson or Thomason

I am looking for my grandmothers birth parents or family. She was born 12/03/1926, but was adopted in 1927.. What records I have state that her birth father was a Captain Thompson or Thomason. My grandmother was born and adopted in Souix City, Iowa. Her mother's name was Theresa.
