We are still waiting for the TPR to be complete and a final court date set. We found out last week that our child would be moved to the Red Cross Orphanage. I was wondering if anyone had information on this orphanage (# of children, is it a large orphanage, playground area etc.) We are just curious about where he is living now.
Thanks!

You are curious about the Red Cross Orphanage?
Please review an old thread written by me in August. It describes it in detail. I was not able to take any photos, while visiting. But it is very clean and well kept. The children looked very happy.
If you have any questions, let me know.
Thanks,
G

Thanks for asking. Things are slow with us. We are still waiting on approval. We have not been referred a child yet. We traveled in May for our initial interviews. We had our psychological evaluation and met with the attorney. We were hoping to be alot further in the process by now (as does everyone, I'm sure). It seems to be exceptionally long. When were you referred your little boy? How old is he?

Hey, Lauri...The two sibs we were pursuing TPR for (since July 2003) were/are at the Red Cross orphanage in San Miguelito. I think they only have kids ages 0-5 years. Also "KimP" had said that it's fairly small and they have lots of outdoor play toys (slides, etc.). She had said the caretaker to child ratio is pretty good, too. But most of all, that they really care about the children!!!

Thanks for all the information on the Red Cross Orphanage. We are grateful for any information. Since we had visited his orphanage in March, it was nice to be able to picture him there with other children he knew. We were concerned when they moved him that he would need to get to know new people and new surroundings. (I guess mostly we just wanted him to come home and get to know us.)
Previous question on referral: We submitted all of our paperwork in July of 2003. We received an unofficial referral in August of 2003; however, the TPR had not been done. (We did not understand at the time that the referral could not be official until TPR was complete.) We travelled in March thinking the TPR would be complete while we were in Panama; however, there was some confusion on that. The TPR was then scheduled for June of 2004; however, it has still not gotten through the court process. We are now waiting for the court to send the final TPR to DNA and DNA to provide an official match. We are praying that we will be matched to the child.
It has been a long process; however, we are all hoping the process will improve and things will begin to move faster.

Our daughter was from the Red Cross Orphanage in Panama City. If it is the same one, it was a small orphanage, but very clean, well maintained and the adult/child ratio was almost overwhelming. Our daughter came home thinking that rocking to sleep every night was just a thing you do (which we continue to do to this day) :). There was a play area, but it is nothing like we picture here in the US. It suffices though. Hope this helps!
