I've been searching the internet for information on stepparent adoption and found this site. I was hoping that someone can help me get started.
My daughter is 3 1/2 years old and the birthfather and I have not been together since I was about 2 months pregnant. His name is not on the birth certificate, he has never seen my daughter and I have no idea where he is. The last time I saw him was 3 years ago in Indiana in court for a restraining order because he had been threatening me.
I am recently married and now live in Salinas, Ca and my husband is the only father my daughter has ever known and he would like to adopt her.
Where should I start and do I have a good case for abandonment?
get in touch with your local family court and ask where to start, we got the forums online.I'm not to smart when it comes to the abandonment thing, would the donor be willing to agree to the adoption? As far as your abandonment case, does the donor know you were pregnant? If yes then you might have a case if not then you might have to prove paternity, then go on with the adoption/abandonment...Sorry I couldn't help out more.

I contacted child services who in turn told me to file the court papers, her in san bernardino ca I paid $20. You can get all the forms off the internet, I can not forget the site I went to. It probably would be easy since his name is not on the birth certificate. Actually on the net you can obtain that info as well. You just have to surf , trying putting in stepparent adoptions, thats what I put in. The courts will refer you to child services and they will do the rest as far as finding him and trying to get his consent. You can also look at the law books on the net and it will tell you the laws against abandonement and him claiming the child. Has He ever paid support cause if ther is no contact or not support for 1 Year that constitutes abandonement. Hope all info is helpful.
