If you know the agency which handled your adoption, you can contact them for information. If not, you can call the Virginia Department of Social Services at 804-726-7523.
I would also register with the ISRR at www.isrr.net .
Post on as many sites that you can find. There are tons out there. Some are state specific. When posting, use date of birth, gender, and state & city of birth.
Good Luck in your search,
Barbara

Hi. I was born in 1971 in mcv. in Richmond too. I contacted the Dept. Social Services about ten years ago and go the non-identifying information from them. Yesterday I called them, and the rules in Va. haven't changed. In order for them to help with a search, you have to apply for a disclosure...then they have 8 months or so to find who it is you are looking for. Then if they WANT to be found, they will let you know. if they don't want to be found, you won't even know if anyone made contact with them. As an adoptee in Va. there seem to be very few rights for us. Anyway, it's a good way to start....
the website where you can print the application is
www.dss.state.va.us and call the social services agency in the county that your adoption was processed. They can help with any non identifying info.
Good luck!
