I would like a copy of my original birth certificate. I have one with my adoptive parent's names on it and the cert. number is the same as the original one. I am hoping to somehow find out my birth mother's name, but how do I get a copy. I went to vitalchek.com, but they want too much info. that I don't know in order to qualify.
Once the adoption is final, your OBC is sealed. The only way it can be opened is with a court order from a judge in VA.

thanks. I thought that might be the case. I am getting really anxious now to find some info. I now have 4 kids of my own...and still no one that looks like me! :) My bmom would be about 70 and my bdad about 80...time is short.
Is there anything on your adoption papers that mention your birth last name? Do you know what town you were born in? Which hospital?
Yes...my birth name was Louise Ruth Bishop (apparently my bmom's last name) and I was born in MCV in Richmond. I have physical descriptions and I know by bmom and bdad's ages. Otherwise I don't know much. Apparently my dear dad was told what my birth mother's name was by accident and then told he should forget it promptly. So he did. He is funny that way...always does what he's told. He now regrets that I know. My parents are trying to help me in this search as well. I imagine there may be siblings as my bmom was 36 or so and divorced when I was born...maybe some sibs from her marriage.
