YIPPEE!!!
We had the county social worker come over to the house this afternoon and explain the program and give us all the paperwork to complete. We did our state police clearance right on line and just have to go for fingerprints and mail in the child abuse clearance forms and complete the VERY simple application. Once our paperwork is all together she'd come back for a final homestudy which she said she could see would be NO problem considering our lovely home and neighborhood and she already saw we had smoke detectors and a fire extingisher. We have to attend 2 classes in November and she said we'd be all set before Christmas!!!!
We've decided to do foster-adopt for a child up to the age of 2. She said to expect a 6 mo to a year old baby and they won't place with us unless the parental rights are going to be terminated definatley. Said our wait shouldn't be long at all and any baby would be VERY lucky to come into our home. Now we have to get a crib and a carseat and thats IT!!! AND they are paying for EVERYTHING!!!
I'm sooooooooooo excited!

I am surprised that they terminate rights for children at such a young age. My daughter's rights weren't terminated until she was 2 and a half. She had been in foster care since birth. Good luck and keep us updated.
The social worker explained that the law states it now takes only a year to terminate parental rights once the motion is started. We would get the child at 6 months and then only have 6 months "in limbo" before the rights were terminated.
Again. We have specially stated that we won't do temporary foster care, and are looking for a child who they are confident will be eligible for adoption so we don't go thru the heartache of becoming attached and having to give the child back.
We may wait 2 days..we may wait 2 years..it's all going to depend on when the right situation for us comes along.
I'm just thrilled at how optimistic and upbeat the social worker was and how eager she is to find us the perfect situation!
I must have misread your first post. I thought that you wouldnt take a child until the rights had already been terminated. But it sounds like you are taking a child who's rights will be terminated in the near future. You are doing the EXACT same thing I did. Even requesting the same age. Im glad to hear that you are doing foster to adopt. It is a great thing. Are you using a private agency or county? Have you done the classes yet? Good luck on you journey. I dont think you will wait long. I was approved in Feb/March and got my daughter the end of May. I had a few calls in between that fell through. I am glad they feel through because I have a WONDERFUL daughter!

We're going thru the county and our classes are Nov 17 and 22. Yes it sounds like we're doing the exact same thing you did. We're just keeping our fingers crossed that the right situation comes along for us soon! Who did you go thru? And how old was your daughter when she came into your home?
