Order of investigation

We just got the papers from our local Probabtion Dept for an order of investigation. What exactly do they do in the investigation? WIll they talk to each my DH and separatly? we were both just curious what they do exactly.

During our investigation the socialworker spoke with both of us together for the report for the termination hearing and separately for the adoption hearing.
