Hi Kathy,
Both my 2 and 3 year old are suspected ADHD children. Their dr. is setting up an appointment to have the 3 y/o seen for a possible attachment disorder. They goofed and called to schedule her to be diagnosed as ADD, when they found out her age they said she was too young to be diagnosed (so it's older than 3!)
Both these kids are extremely active, need very little sleep (unlike their Mommy lol), and tend to be destructive if left to their own devices. Our little girl also has some anger issues (rages) but that's where the attachement disorder may come into play.
How old is your child? I am curious to see how others answer this so I'll know when to ask to have them tested officially.

ADHD can't be diagnosed till around school age (5 to 6) from what I heard. I know mothers that swore up and down that their child had ADHD and they were diagnosed but then later on hated how medicated their child was. No energy, wanted to sleep constanty, etc. So they weened them off and their children were okay. Teachers now tell parents to medicate their children for ADHD, and as I know... most of those teachers are lazy and just want a very very calm classroom. If your child is extremely on tilt, you have to wait till about 5 or 6.
Children with ADD can be diagnosed as early as age 3. However, if your child has a history of maltreatment, as many adopted and foster children do, most, in fact, you should first have an SIPT evaluation by an Occupational Therapist who is SIPT certified as many such children have sensory-integration disorders. Sensory integration disorders can often look like ADD, but are treated quite differently...so get that ruled out or in first.
