I am placing this tread in multiple forums for the best results. Thanks.
We were placed with a 6 week old about 3 weeks ago and we started noticing that she would not focus at all on anything. She has no reaction to light, ect. I took her to the doctor who sent us to the Optomologist who discovered that her Optic Nerves were extremely small and gave a possible diagnosis of Optic Nerve Hypoplasia. Here is my concern.....
DFCS has identified the great-grandmother for all the siblings placement (there are 5 under 5). This disease is very serious and they do not seem to care to check into whether the great-grandmother will be able to adequately care for her with so many small children. I was told that they will just let her know to follow up with doctors! I have called and spoken with CASA and they were also concerned. I am not saying it will be a bad placement, I just want someone to care and check into it.
Can anyone help or does anyone have any advise???? PLEASE!!!!

I always try and get the kids I have all the medical dental and developmental help they need in my care because you never know if they will get it at home...or if they will even be on some kind of insurance plan...hopefully they will still remain on medicaid..but who knows.
I would get all the tests and everything done asap..once more is known..then let the attorney ad litem know what is going on.....he will help decide what the best interest of the child is.
Sometimes they have to just hope and give the family credit that they will follow up and provide for the child like they should. Other times...maybe in your case...when their is a medical problem that requires a lot of care and follow up they may choose to hold the child a little longer to get more info on his condition...then make sure the family member knows exactly what will be involved with caring for the child and making sure they know what they are doing.
I hope for the sake of the child...she doesn't have a major problem...she will be in my prayers.

Thank you for the prayers, she needs them.
I spoke with CASA this morning and they are going to meet with great-grandma this morning but from talking with her they may recommend keeping the baby in care to accomidate her medical needs.
We have already set up the specialist appt. but the soonest they could see her was the 29th. If she is still with us we will definately get her there. We have also talked with early intervention.
It sounds like they are interested in the child and not...just to get her out of the system.....that is a good thing!! I hope they find out everyhting they need to know at the visit on the 29th...at least...a start to it...so CASA can be updated with word of her special needs. Let us know how things go.
We go to court in the morning. I spoke with CASA this morning and they told me that they are going to recommend the placement of the 4 older children with the great-grandparents but they are going to speak with the GAL about the baby, B, staying in care until we can find out the severity of the disorder and see how the transition of the 4 older (1, 2, 4, & 5) boys goes. I told the CASA worker that it is not that I do not want her to go with them, I just want to make sure that she is able to give her everything she deserves (she will be 70 before B goes to school).
I will let you know when I get through with court what the decision is.
