My little girl is now 8 months old.
In the past she has always eaten the whole 4 ounces in the lact-aid...with no problem and you can hear her swallowing after every suck.
Now she is starting to feed differently. She is constantly falling asleep while trying to feed her. She sucks for a little..then holds for a while and then starts sucking again. She is now leaving about an ounce in the lact-aid at each feeding.
My question...is she never used to fall asleep this much while eating and when she did she always continued feeding well.
She is growing like a weed...so I know she is getting enough milk. I figure that my supply is increasing and that is why she doesn't need as much from the lact-aid....but why does she fall asleep everytime I feed her.....she starts off screaming letting me know she is hungry....and sticking her whole hand in her mouth but after a couple sucks...she's out and the whole feeding is me trying to wake her up. When I pick her up to burp her and wake her up she cries...and when I put her to the other breast she imediately starts sucking...then starts to slow down again and it is another battle to keep her up and keep her feeding.
Why is she so tired all of a sudden when she is feeding? Maybe she is just going through a growth spurt....even though it appears like she is eating less.
Has anyone else been through this?
Also...i feel like i am tired and ehausted all the time....I figure it is due to ...the domperidone...and herbs. Can she be experienceing the same side affects? I though very little of it went to the baby?
Hi
Prolactin makes you sleepy, and the domperidone raises your prolactin level, as you know! It is very possible that your own milk supply is increasing, that is why she is taking less with the supplement in the Lact-aid. It probably wouldnt hurt to have her weighed every week at the doctors office or you can rent a baby scale from alot of different places..just to make sure she is still gaining, so you will have piece of mind! Has she started solids yet? If she has, then obviously she will be taking less milk. A babies weight gain can have spurts.. I would also post this question on the ABRW and ask the ladies there what they think! Sounds like you are doing such a great job..congratulations!

I'm thinking the sleepiness was just a faze she was going through because now...when she isn't sleeping as she's eating....she is constantly letting go..looking around the room....coming back for a second then letting go and looking around again...or pulling the lactaid up in the air which makes the tube come out..... she has always loved pulling on the tube or bag...I was hiding it for a while so she couldn't grab it, but she's become smart and finds it one way or another and grabs it and pulls it up and out of her mouth....just to look at it and play with it and chew on it.
Jessica-
How long have you been nursing your daughter?
I have a 4 month old (that has been with us since birth) that I am wanting to BF. He has eczema and will be prone to allergies/asthma and thought BF might give him a chance to ward that stuff off.
I have checked out the "fourfriends" website and found that to be very helpful.
Anyone have any advice? I will meet with a lactation consultant and have ordered a pump and lact-aid. other than that i have no idea what to do (silly, you'd think it would come naturally).
thanks for any advice.
I will post this in a new forum as well for more feedback.
