i have made the decision to try breastfeeding with the lactaid without any meds/herbals (mostly bonding than feeding). my question is, i went to the lactaid website, and i'm not sure what/how much to buy. i've read that having a days worth of bags (i guess that is what i need a day's worth) is easiest instead of having a ticked off baby while trying to clean the last one up. what would you all recommend? how does the package come? i'd like to go ahead and buy now so i can get familiar with it before a baby comes (we are not even matched right now). and do you pre-make how ever many ounces ahead of time and store it in the fridge in the lactaid bags? i'd love to hear your routines and what has worked best for you. thanks so much!!! tina

Tina,
I used Lactaid for breastfeeding my adopted daughter and I just stopped using it, but I still breastfeed most every meal. She's 6 months old now. I am able to produce a whole breakfast of breast milk in the morning for her. It took almost 5 months for that to happen. I bought 10 lactaid units, and every two days I washed everything and filled up the bags and stored in the refrigerator for the next two days. I breastfed with Lactaid 4 or 5 times a day, then gave 1 bottle or 2 at night if needed. It's better to never leave the cleaning for right before feeding because it's really time consuming and the baby will cry desperate and hungry. So when your lactaid units are dirty, give the bottle. That's what I'd do and what I did. (I did take Domperidone and Fenugreek. I still do. I know where you can get Domperidone very affordably if you'd like to try). Dark beer also helps in producing more milk too. Drink lots of water too. And putting the baby to the breast as often as possible is the key. Not the lenghth of time as much as the number of times you put the baby to the breast is what increases breast milk supply.
The lactaid package comes in 4's. I bought two deluxe packages and 2 extra units, a total of 10. I hope you enjoy the experience! My baby is really well adjusted, very close to me. She really bonded well with me and is very attached. I'd do it all over again with or without the Lactaid....though I think the Lactaid really helps to start up the whole process.

thanks for responding!!! i gave up thinking no one really gets over here, and i bought six units total. i already got them, practiced with them, and gave them a clean...and i completely see what you mean about how long it takes to clean them!!! i think i will order more eventually (aka, when i know this baby is ours!), and still use bottles for daddy to get some time in too. thanks for the great tips too! and i will not be taking dom or anything else (i already am on meds for asthma/depression, and i do not want to take anything more than i have to), but i guess i better find a dark beer i can choke down on occasion! thanks a lot for responding!!
My baby is 7 months old (Dec.1 she will be) and I still use the Lact-Aid all day long. She has never had a bottle, she wont take one. She likes fruit in the morning and veggies at dinner now, but mostly gets milk. I switched to the 7ounce bags for the lact-aid. I pump when I can, but mostly just use formula at this point. I make up a pitcher in the morning and fill up my bags and leave the pitcher with formula in the fridge in case I need to make more up. Then I fill up the bags and get them out when she needs one. If she doesn't finish one, I stick in back in the fridge until the next feeding. (she is totally fed on demand-no schedule)I haven't used any dom or anything. I produce more milk in the mornings, but I still wear the lact-aid in case she gets crabby cause the breast takes too long. I save the pumped milk to use in her cereal and when we practice with the sippy cup.~Shannon
