Hello! I"m new to this site and needed some advice. Is anyone willing to tell me a lot of detail the adoption process through LDS family and social services. I know some of the basic requirements and my husband and I will be married for 2 years in June. Do we have to wait until June to begin any of the paperwork or do you think they would let us start like a month or two earlier and just not become available until june. I just can't wait to get started! My husband and I already decided that instead of a trip for our anniversary or anything fancy we want to spend the day starting our adoption. Anyway, I'm looking for any details you could spare. Are the adoption fees due in increments or all at the beginning or end, etc? How long does the paperwork and home visits take? What exactly is the process? Can you tell I know very little? :) I want to be as educated as possible though! I'd appreciate any info you can give me! Thanks!
Leslie
I just picked up a packet from LDS. This will be our 3rd adoption. Under requirements it does not give a time frame of how long you need to be married. I know by doctors terms you are considered infertile if it has been a year. I think it use to be 3 years but I would call your local agency to find out. That's where you will get all the info you need.

I know that LDSFS used to require you be married for 2 years. My husband and I started the paperwork before that and had scheduled our homestudy visit for just after our anniversary. I don't know if they still require it.
There are many things to do for the homestudy. It isn't hard, but it can take a few months. The fingerprints alone take 6-8 weeks to get back. The reference letters can take a while to trickle in, getting a dr. appointment, etc. It doesn't hurt to pick up a packet, have your first meeting w/ the caseworker and get the paperwork started.
Good luck,
Rebecca
As of june last year, I know that the requirements were that you could not be accepted until you had been married 2 yrs. I know personally of many people who did all the homestudy and application stuff and then got accepted on their 2 yr anneversary. You pay 10% of your annual income not less than 5k and not more than 10k. Of those fees, $1000 is due when you submit your application (the rest is due at placement of a child). Then you wait for referrals to come back (other people complete questionaires about you) then you have a home visit (state regulations) then you get all the homestudy paperwork which should include paperwork for fingerprints, medical forms, questionaires...etc.... They also give you a itenerary and timeline of all the things to happen. It takes a while to complete, appx 10-20 weeks. I have heard of things happening faster than that, but thats about average. You also must be working on your paper and internet profiles and bparent letters. Once your homestudy is finished (and you have been married 2 yrs) the LDSFS committee will approve you and your profile will become active and be shown to potential bparents and will be available for viewing online as well.
