Can anyone tell me what is typical "baby food" for Guatemala. Our paperwork for the baby says she loves baby food, yet she really seems to hate American baby food. Do they just mash up their regular food or do they actually buy specific baby food?? She is 7 1/2 months old. I know their baby cereal was ground more fine, we still have some of that. But what about other foods? They specifically said she did not like sweet baby food, but sour?? Huh?? Is there sour baby food??
Please help so her meals can be more pleasant for her!
Thanks!
I don't have any Guatemalan baby advice yet....
Sour?
That probably means she likes savory flavors like vegies or sqash over fruits. Did you try altering the temperature? Maybe that makes the difference. We always cut our sweet fruits with some cereal and they seemed to like it. My kiddos also loved the organic baby food especially the lentils. This cracks them up when I tell them this

They have jars of babyfood from Guatemala in the hotel lobbies, stores etc. It actually has a thicker consistency than what I was used to.
The baby food (Gerber brand) that our kids had in Guatemala had sugar added. And the rice cereal had sort of a more vanilla flavor to it. (Yes, I tasted all the food we fed our kids :) )
I'm not sure what they meant by sour foods though. I know our Londy to this day likes things with vinegar or more savory flavors, especially if they are vegetables (like cucumber and vinegar salad).
Hope you find what your little one enjoys soon!

I know that my guy prefers the veggies to the fruits. I really mix the fruit with his cereal to dilute the sweetness.
When I lived in Guatemala I found very little selection of baby foods..mostly fruit..so I think the babies are put on sweeter things right from the start..

My daughter really loves savory foods... green beans, peas, squash, mashed potatoes, corn. She will not tolerate sweet foods like applesauce.
She will eat #3 baby foods, but prefers things we mash up ourselves using a baby food attachment to the blender.
Now that she has teeth, she eats what we eat most of the time. Last night she ate rice and shredded chicken, along with some of the Beech Nut green beans (the chunks of bean, not the baby food).
Oh, and she loves soup! Veggie soups are a great lunch... Trader Joe's makes some soups that are easy to warm up in the microwave that are low in sodium.
