My husband and I are gettting ready to adopt another child. Our first is a wonderful 2 year old boy that we adopted from the Philippines. This time around we would like to adopt a little girl in the same age range (2-4). Since we can no longer afford to go international we thought we would look into the foster-adopt program. An interesting opportunity had come our way and I'm not sure how to proceed.
A friend's sister wants very much to relinquish her 3 year old daughter. She has 5 children: 2 boys who are living with other family members somewhere and 3 girls who are with her. For some reason she has a dislike for the youngest girl and doesn't want her.
The chld is technically a resident of California although the family has been living in Mexico for quite some time. I live in another state altogether. I want to set up a meeting with the woman and talk with her.
If she is set on this course of action and we cannot get her to seek counseling I would like very much to bring this little girl into our family. Is this even possible? If it is, how do we begin? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Usually I get an email when someone replies to my posts. I never got one - strange. Anyway.....
No, that particular situation did not work out. A relative of the little girl took her in. The only thing I know about that situation is that they are having trouble getting the girl enrolled in kindergarten because the mom won't cooperate and give guardianship.
However, since that post my husband and I became foster parents and now have 3 beautiful kids (siblings) in our home: girl- 2 1/2, boy - 1 1/2 and an infant girl, in addition to our 3 1/2 year old son. The court date is next week to TPR on the two oldest kids. Then we can start the adoption process. We're not sure what's going to happen with the infant. There's a fair chance the judge will give the parents another "shot" at her. I'm not at all happy with that prospect.
