Hi, We are starting to network for independent/private adoption.
A friend of mine in Florida says that she heard children born in Florida cannot be adopted out of state.
Maybe this is just if not using an agency? I have heard of several recent adoptions in FL, but I think all agency related.
Anyone have any info, can shed some light-should we even try to network with friends and family in Florida?
Thanks Leni
Our ds was born in FL. We live in VA. I don't remember the FL lawyer ever mentioning anything like this to us. We used a "private" agency in our home state. (They did our homestudy, but it was up to us to network and make a connecting match. After that we only use them for whatever services were needed. In this case, post-placement visits.) They are not what is traditionally referred to as an "agency".
Other than the post placement visits, our "agency" never had any involvement, especially since we opted to finalize in Fl (quicker finalization that our state). If there is such a requirement, the post placement visits are the only reason I can think of why it would be. IF there is, are there "private agencies similar to ours you can use?
I'd suggest calling an adoption atty experienced w/ICPC in FL and asking them. They'd quickly be able to tell you yes or no.
