what is the difference between the way a ADD/ADHD child thinks and the way a normal child thinks? people say kids with ADD/ADHD, think "out side the box" what exactly do u mean by that and why does this occur?
ADHD is a brain disorder that causes difficulties focusing, concentrating, easy distractability, difficulties with working memory, impulse control, emotional control, and other problems with "Executive Functions" or higher cognitive processes. It really has nothing to do with "how a child thinks." It really is not the case that children with ADHD are more creative or "think outside the box." While annecdodataly it may occur, this is not a function of the disorder. Intelligence and ADHD are not related, except to the extent that more severe cases of ADHD make it very difficult for a child to attend to intellectual tasks and focus and so may not test will on IQ tests while untreated.

I've heard (and seen many books on the subject) that many children with ADHD are also Gifted. And that this duality can make it difficult to diagnose one or the other, is this true?
Maia
It is not true. There is no relationship between IQ and ADHD. The percentage of gifted children with ADHD is the same percentage as in the general population. The average IQ of children with ADHD is the same as that in the general population.
