We rec'd our NAC registration last month, but today I learned from our agency, unless you already have a travel date, the NAC are not mailing any more.
Apparently, with so many changes and confusion at the NAC, there are over 2,000 children in UA who's files are waiting to be processed by the NAC. When they get to these files, they will open things up again, perhaps in Dec or January. There is speculation that the frustration with the NAC's workflow contributed to the fire at the director's office. This is compounded by the moritorium in place on the US and other countries for non-compliance of post-placements.
I might add, it is not easy for those who are in UA now as there is only a slim chance of finding a healthy child on your first referal and you may wait another week to get a second.
To sum it up, the whole thing is nearly shut down and it appears to be rough time for those now in Ukarine. This news dashed any hopes for us to avoid having to do a third dossier. I have said it before, it seems impossible at times to believe that there could possibly be a child at the end of all this.
Good luck to all.
This is not new news. We were registered in May then requested a September date. We received a letter in July stating that all appointments had been filled for the remainder of the year. They will notify us in Dec or Jan of the date of our appointment. Many families have been receiving this letter for a couple of months. We are in the process of redoing all documents in our dossier. Don't give up hope!

Just so all hope is not lost. Families with special circumstances are still receiving approvals & appts. Friends of mine who just adopted in Aug met a 15yo while there. They have already redone their dossier, had it approved and received an appt for Nov 21.
The director was quite pleasant and helpful. This is the only shot for a US adoption, and probably any adoption, for this child since he turns 16yo in January and she went above and beyond to assist in bringing this child home in a very short window of time.
Hang in there. I believe the road will smooth back out and adoptions will be processed in a more reasonable fashion within a few months.
We also received a letter from the NAC on Saturday stating that all appointments for 2005 had been scheduled and that we would get another letter in Dec or Jan with a date for 2006.
Since (almost) everyone I know waiting has gotten the same letter, I can't say I was too surprised, but still a little disappointed.
Oh well! 2006 isn't really "that" far away!!
Good luck to everyone.

With things so up in the air right now, I think a travel date in 2006 could prove to be an advantage
