Well, according to the majority of the news services coming out of Bulgaria, the Socialists have the power and the former King (and now former Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg) are out of office. So what does this mean for the adoption process? Anyone got any ideas yet. I've been putting some feelers out about it but haven't heard anything yet. But I'm still waiting......
Well, I do not know how it will all affect foreign adoptions. One point of note however is that the Socialist party did not have a "clear" majority...therefore, it is not actually over till in July. At that point, it may be that the president of Bulgaria will make the final decision.
A couple other points that stood out to me, the Socialists are not necessarily "pro" American as the Saxe-Coburg party has been. And the U.S. has yet to ratify to the Hague Convention which has already closed doors in other countries.
Also, if things continue in unrest, it could mean a delay of at least a year for Bulgaria to enter into the EU...Personally, I have read their entry into the EU as a positive because it meant there was a strong motivation to curb bribery/corruption and to move the foreign adoption process forward. So I really don't know how to take the talk about the delay for entry into the EU and how so many are actually rallying against other countries getting into the EU altogether.
The site I got this from is: http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,3327044a12,00.html
If anyone has any idea about where this might be headed...please share...please also share WHERE your information came from as it is interesting to be able to go and read it from the source.
Thanks,
KWien

The committee has been meeting, we know that it was last friday, this Monday and Tuesday. We have finally gotten our daughter regestered. T`sdad :)
I get the majority of my Bulgarian news from the news service www.novinite.com which is pretty good. I was a little disheartened to read that some of the political scientists in Bulgaria are believing that the elections may create more confusion in the government that previously (just what we needed). What I am reading is that they are trying to form a government with the 3 top winners in the election but they are saying there are too many players in the upcoming parliament and that this may create some of the problems that we are going to have to deal with in the coming months. But they are going forward with the EU and that is good. But the news seems to be tying their acceptance into the EU with Romania which is interesting.
What this means for adoption, no one knows. No one who ran for election tried to campaign on that issue! :)
We shall see, but one thing to remember is that the President of Bulgaria is not a powerful position and is primarily a figurehead. The person we have to be looking for is who will be the Prime Minister of the next government. That will tell us what is going to happen.
T's Dad,
Many congradulations!! It has been a long haul but hopefully soon to be ending in success!!

T's dad,
I am so glad to hear this. Will you be able to accept the referral the minute it comes through or have you already done this?

Our Bulgarian attorney seems to think that things will be better once the new government is in place and running, she hopes by September. Also, she made comments about the EU, and how she thinks joining may not be very good for adoptions, as the EU has made negative comments about Bulgaria "supplying" children to citizens of other countries. This is the most difficult wait! The uncertaintly is killing me. Is everyone hanging tough with Bulgaria? I'm beginning to wonder how long we should sit and wait, before moving to another country.
I have just moved to Kazakhstan. I have heard from my Bulgarian attorney, and she is also saying that it will be fall before they get running again. Once they get running, she has advised that it will be very slow, and a long wait for matches.
It was hard to switch, since my first daughter is from Bulgaria, but I have become comfortable with the decision. Plus, the Kaz dossier is sooooo easy compared to Bulgaria!

My wife and I just returned from a 2 week visit with our daughter in Sofia. We had found out the day before we left
that we had gotten our daughter finally regestered, and matched to us. We are now ready for MOJ to sign and to court. The court is on holiday for a few weeks and we hope to get done sometime early in the fall. T`sdad :)
