For those of you who adopted from foster care did you have an adoption party to celebrate? We have had our daughter for 2 years and will finalize this month. We are wondering about a party since we have had her for 2 years. She is now 4 1/2. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you.
Trinasmom ~ Wanted to bump your thread back to the top. Hopefully someone that shared a similar situation will see it.
My parents adopted me when I was 13 months old. They didn't have a party but introduced me to family and friends a few at a time. We never celebrated "adoption day" or anything like that. My birthday was celebrated just like everyone else. Of course adoption, while never being denied or kept secret, was not focused on the way it is in some homes today.
Hope you get some feedback from others and Congratulations on finalizing the adoption. That is so great the your daughter that's been with you for two years has a forever home. :D

and did have small parties when adoptions were finalized.....adoption day is never very big, but it is something like going to the movies or renting one and staying up past bed time if a school night and saying once again I'm so happy you are my child....
a cake and close relatives over would be good, or going out to eat....if you have been through the ringer like we were with foster care then adoption you'd be a celebrating big time....I even sent the kids foster care worker flowers on the day...it was such a relief to have it over...if you go to court, which you do in Missouri it will be good for the kid to go for the last time (doesn't Missouri have kids at some of the foster care cases????/ my son knew the place pretty well when we went to court and it was tough on him because he thought his b-mom or grandparents would be there....in Va kids really never go to court)
Just wanted to thank you guys for the input. We did have an adoption party with about 50 people. We did it in a princess theme since that what she is. ;) ( ha ha) We held it at the park so that the kids could play. I had almost finished her scrapbook but took it anyway so everyone could see how she had grown since she came to live with us 2 years before. My employer threw us a party also. So we celebrated 2 weekends in a row. She loved it and we got a good start on her college fund!
