We officially started our journey to fostering in December.
So far, we've gotten 12 hours of our PRIDE training done, we do 8 more hours tomorrow. Our first home visit was done and our caseworker was writing our home study last Thursday.
There were two financial documents I'd forgotten to include that we'll be dropping off with her tomorrow during PRIDE, and also she's/we're having my Mom do a background check so that she can be an alternate caregiver for us. That was sent in on Thursday afternoon.
Does the homestudy being written mean that we're approved as far as DHS goes? We've already done fingerprinting/background checks/reference letters. If that's the case, what's the usual wait time between the homestudy being completed and being licensed? (we're in Michigan if that helps, and a high-needs county).
Thanks for any insight you can add & just for being an ear, because this waiting is... whew!!!

We started mid-Dec, Christina, and finally got our approval at 2pm yesterday :) We are officially foster parents - woot! So all together it took us just over five months from first interview to license, and we did try to "rush" things. Every question they had, we answered within fifteen minutes. Fingerprints were done the day requested, all of that. The longest part of the wait was our CW writing up the home study.
Now we're waiting for the call, but I feel sort of like all the pressure's off.
Hopefully yours goes quickly!

Thanks Lotusmama, and I know you're right... but our house is sooooo quiet right now. lol Our niece & nephew moved (with their parents, but it's the kids we miss most haha) over a year ago & realizing how much we miss all the crazy, messy, loud joy of them being around is part of what pushed us to start this journey :)

I understand about a quiet house. Our house is now only quiet when everyone is in bed. We started w/ 2 and recently added their newborn sibling. We're just getting our first Mommy and Daddy only vacation after a year. Because of course, our mini vacation was cancelled due to our two coming into our home. So, plan a vacation and you'll definitely get a placement:)

Hi Christina! No, we haven't. It's been five weeks since we've been licensed. I touched base with our CW last week, and she gave me some info for our local support group, but no word on what's going on or where we're at on the list. We live in a really small community with a large native population (and we're non-native) so I think that's part of the wait... It's really frustrating, but we're trying to stay positive. We also offered to do respite, and we haven't been asked to yet.
Oh ok. I was just curious since we live in the same state. We are in the suburbs of Detroit area. So it is a high need area. You must live up north. I know quite a bit about the native American population. I have friends that are. Plus I have a tiny bit in me. They are very strict about not fostering or adopting to anyone that isn't native American. Which I think is crazy. But it is what it is. I hope you get a child soon

We've gotten all our paperwork in except for our TB TEST and the DH's employment verification. Three couples in our class already got their licenses!!!!! I want it to be me next! We have two more classes (6 hours) left of training. I try to do something in the house everyday in order to get ready...waiting, waiting, waiting...
