Here's an amusing event I feel the need to share, and I think other single adopters will appreciate...
I live in West Africa and am adopting here. In order to do so, one of the first pieces of paper I had to go get (I got it yesterday) is a "Certificate de Celibataire."
Now, accurately translated from the French, that just means that it certifies I'm single.
I particularly enjoy, however, that it SOUNDS as though I had to get a certificate that says I'm celibate...and that I had to have two witnesses sign and attest to that fact.
I have also found that in French "celibat" is spinsterhood...so I keep saying that I'm now a certified spinster. My mom (divorced twice) suggested that I frame it and hang it on the wall next to my diplomas.

I guess the old terminology hangs on. I'd definitely keep that one. Maybe you could have it enlarged and framed - it'll be sure to impress your next date :p
