Okay, it is with great humiliation that I write about poor Miss Hannah's hair. She's had a bald ring around her hair for months. Goes from ear to ear and cuts right through the back of her hair. If I leave her hair down the lower part of the hair goas downward and the upper part goes upward and I think it makes it worse. So normally her hair is in pony-puffs, somewhere between one and three and I never make parts that would accentuate the bald ring around her head. but I'm getting concerned, she's 10 monthes old now. Is this common with other AA babies??
Addy is almost 14 months and has the same thing. I don't have tons of experience but I think it's pretty common - annoying though :)

PJ has the same thing! It looks like he is wearing a a bad toupe that is not quite long enough to cover all the way around!

Does she sleep on her back? I see it on so many kids at the mall. It's so cute! I thought it was from sleeping on their backs?
at 17 months, dd has a smallish short hair spot in the base of her head . it's from the car seat, etc, but also just normal. her's has been shrinking, so we're hopeful it's days are numbered. we massage the area with jojoba oil every night and morning.
I see in your avatar that your daughter wears/wore a head band-that could be aggravating the issue. Also problematic are pony tails pulled too tight.

Although I am still in the beginning of the adoption process and do not have any children of my own at the moment. I am AA/PR and almost all of my AA nieces/nephews/cousins etc... experienced this. No worries eventually it will go away and that is when the real fun will begin :cheer:
I'm so glad it wasn't just us. I was getting nervous because I've been on the baords for a long time and no one had mentioned it! It is deifnitely from sleeping on her back and car seat time, her ponytails do not aggrevate the condition - I combine the hair to cover it up - when I leave her hair free, it kind of tangles above and tangles below so I really worry that leaving it free will make it worse because the tangling pulls at the hair.
Our baby is almost 5 months and has the same thing. My friends baby had it also. It must be an AA thing. I feel like people are thinking I just lay her down all the time though : )
My second foster daughter had this. Her daycare teachers called it her "highway" it sounds just like Hannahs - went from ear to ear in the back- like a smile. I never noticed hairs falling out or excessive dryness, it was just there.
