Hi
I would like any advice or facilitator recommendations regarding strictly independent Hungary adoptions. Also any stories or information would be great as well.
Thanks!
Leanna
I too would like information on Independent adoptions in Hungary. We adopted our 6 yr. old son from Slovakia in 2002 and a 5 yr old son from Ukraine in 2005.
We are unable to return to Slovakia for an adoption until after the Hague treaty is ratified; and would prefer to not return to Ukraine for another adoption.
It appears as though an independent adoption would be possible in Hungary which would be our preferred route. It also appears that there would be Romani orphans available for adoption there which is our desire.
Thanks for any and all help you can give me.

Hi Deb,
I've been researching Hungarian adoptions lately and it seems like a good choice for independant adoptions if you are looking for older or hard to place children. You only need an interpreter and an attorney on the foreign side. The US side is the usual dossier prep & USCIC approval. Have you checked out the US Embassy and Hungarian Embassy websites?

You can get some good info there. You can also check info at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Hungarian-Adoption
It's a fairly recent group, with only a few posts, but a couple of members are currently in process and can probably answer your questions about the details and about Romany children. I would assume thre would be Romany kids since Hungary has a good sized Romany population.
Good luck!
Gina
Hi Gina, thanks for all your information. I visited all your links and joined the group. I was just reading online last night about the gypsy children in Hungary, that they were plentiful, but hard to adopt and some people were having trouble with that. I will keep looking into it. They look like beautiful children.
It is very hard to find out information about adopting from this country, but we have decided that it is our place to go. Do you know anyone who has adopted from there?
thanks
Katrina
Hi Katrina,
I do not know anyone who has completed an adoption from Hungary. I have made contact with two families who are in process, both at the beginning stages.
I started researching Hungary in November. My DH and I were registered with the Lithuanian govt, but were beginning to fear that nothing would come of that, so we started researching other options. However, we did get a referral for Lithuania, so I'm just holding onto my research in other countries in case we decide to do this again the future.
Best wishes!
Gina
