Okay - so I get how to put a hyperlink in, but what if I want to do a trackback to someone else's blog so that it comes up under 'trackback?' Every person's blog posting has a link at the bottom for trackback, but when I insert that into my code it never works, so I end up using the regular hyperlink without the blog getting "trackback" credit. Advice? Help?

Funny, Sandra, I just logged on to this forum specifically to ask about trackbacks myself. I read this thread earlier and thought, "Gee, for someone fairly computer literate, I have NO idea what they are talking about!" I even followed the links on DSS or whatever it is when we post our blogs, to learn about trackbacks, and I still don't get it. And it gave examples! So, Bill, can you add "trackback educator" to your long list of accomplishments and help me and Sandra out?

When you look at the bottom of your post, it lists the number of comments and the number of trackbacks. Comments are self explanatory for most of us - people who commented on your site. Trackbacks is basically equivalent to citing a source in a research paper - you read what they wrote, and then blogged about a similar topic, or cited what they said in your next post, and wanted to link to their site. It also lets them know that you've linked to their site - not just inserting a hyperlink that they may or may no know about. Its a great way to get your site noticed - people will often read comments - of which there may be many - and trackbacks usually stand out because there are just a few if any. However, it's not something that should be over-used. Someone else may get annoyed if you are constantly trackback-ing their site. I'm sure Bill will add to this if I've missed anything.
Okay - so I got it to work for a blog outside of Adoption.com (you can check out what I'm talking about at http://thenakedovary.typepad.com/the_naked_ovary/2006/03/i_swear_you_swe.html- just scroll slightly past her post and right before the comments start) but I also put in a trackback for the International Blog and although I got the same message from the computer that it had been processed, it still hasn't come up a day later. I'm curious if this is because we are all in the same site, or if there is another reason. Has anyone been able to put a trackback on another adoption.com blog?
