Hello. We are looking into adoption and are curious about Bulgaria. We live in Canada. I have looked online at a few different agencies in Canada that handle Bulgaria adoptions and they say that the wait time for a proposal and travel is not that long compared to other programs... possibly 5-6 months after submitting dossier to Bulgaria. I see that many of you have been waiting for much longer. Could it be different for Canadian's just like Ukraine is - in the sense that Ukraine is accepting dossiers from Canada for all children, not just older like it is for Americans ?Just curious.Gillian

This is not a Canadian thing. There are a couple of factors playing into these wait times. First, Bulgaria stopped processing adoptions for several months, so many of us were caught in that. Secondly, they are prioritizing special needs and older children. Even those will have a wait time of close to 6 months for a match. I have jumped through MANY hoops to get my referral (which, for others on the list, I was match on 3/20. so I will not get details until the week of 4/3).
They are prioritizing childless couples, so if that fits you, it would help. But, unless you are willing to take a child over 4 years old, or a special needs child, I would guess your wait for a match to be much closer to a year or even more.
