I am trying to prepare a folder of important information that may be useful when we do finally get to travel. You know, in case I am old and have memory lose by then. Anyway, I wanted to write down questions that we should ask about our referral. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Jennifer
Depends how old they are going to be. When you first get to the orphanage, you should be given a history of their medical conditions and family circumstances. Then, after that you'll have more of an idea of what you need to ask. You'll have plenty of chances to come up with questions to ask while you are visiting and waiting for the 10 days after court, usually there are plenty of people to ask.
We were told that Daniel was hyperactive, so I made sure they did not have him on any medication for it and I tried to get an idea of exactly what they meant by that.
We asked his caregivers what he was used to eating and what his daily schedule was. It's good to know what their sleep schedule is, what they do or don't like to eat, how they interact with the other children in their groups. If the children are older, ask if they can read or write, how much education they have had, how well they can concentrate on tasks etc.
I am sure there are loads of questions we did not ask, but then you get the best impression by just spending time with the children. You will never ask all the questions you want to in the short time you have between meeting the children and when you have to decide whether to accept them or not.
