Those of you who already brought your kids home, how did you buy airline tickets for them (I mean roundtrip vs. oneway)? We have to go on our court trip soon and my husband and I need round trip tickets while the adopted child needs just one way ticket. Someone told me it's cheaper to buy roundtrip than one-way ticket, not sure if it is true. Just want to be sure we all end up on the same flight. Thanks to all.

Our agency arranged it for us in Moscow, one way from there, had it delivered to our hotel once we checked in. Talk to your agency maybe they will arrange it for you. We also purchased a seat for DS so that we would have extra room for all of us (see if you can get bulkhead seats as this made a huge difference for DS as he was a toddler and had room to play), good luck.
We purchased the one way ticket when be bought ours. We didn't actually buy her a seat, she was a lap child but we still had to pay quite a bit for taxes, etc.. I don't think you can buy a round and only use half. If I remember correctly there is something about if the person doesn't show up for the first half of the reservation it gets cancelled or something like that. Just make sure you check on that if you are going to do the round trip and only use the return portion and make sure that is ok.

We bought a lap child ticket for just the return portion. I think it was $200. He didn't have his own seat technically. I have to say that Korean air is so nice!! We were able to get a bassinet that screwed right into the bulk head for DS. He slept pretty much the whole way home! They gave us all 4 bulk head seats in our row because there was room on the plane. So, when he was awake, there was plenty of room. That was a major blessing!
I don't know if other airlines have similar bulk head bassinets. Our son was also only 8.5 months old when we came home.
We did r/t thru Delta for our 2 y/o DD. It was $910 in Dec vs the $1500 one way ticket - go figure. The agent at Delta helped me with this, but did "hint" for us not to mention that we would not be using the return ticket back to Moscow. The adoption fare tickets thru Delta were much more expensive than some of their deals that they offer on their website. The only thing is that they are non-refundable and they charge a fee to change the dates. For us it worked out because even if we had to change the dates, it still would have been less than the adoption fare.
