HA! YES. Our name is finally off the list! I'm very surprised. I am Amy. The same year my parents chose to use an "uncommon, old-fashioned name", so did half the other parents in my town! I was born 2 days later, 2 doors down from Amy Susan. She, along with 3 other Amys, was the reason I had to go by Amy Tr. for my first several years in school, rather than Amy T. So I axed many popular names off my girl and boy lists, only to turn around and do the same thing to my son! After he was born, we started seeing that name on ALL the baby name lists, and close to the top! Fortunately, in our rural area, this seems like an unusual name to many, and I"ve only heard of one other Aidan in the school where he'll go. Then we talk about spelling - we chose our name because of Irish family heritage, and spelled it the Irish way (it's an Irish name), just like his patron saint. I'm not a fan of unusual spellings anyway. Apparently, many people in the US spell it differently. I think that to date we've been given things with his name spelled 5 different ways! We just can't win....... You can bet I'll research it much better next time!

LOL I understand!! LOL at this point my problem is that my FRIENDS are using up all my baby names!! LOL Aidan was at the top of my list for a little boy(I was going to have to fight my sister for it), but one of my best friends just named her little boy that last fall! LOL I'm still struggling for a good boys name :) Right now I'm looking at using: Sean RileyFinnian Cole(my family is fighting this one BIG time! lol) My boy VN names currently are: Lahn Huynh meaning "Quick minded/smart older brother"Huu Tho meaning "To have a long life"Hai Thanh meaning "Ocean the color of the sky" I'm not worried about my girls names...at this point I'm looking at: Ada Beth Brenna Lee For the Girls VN names I have: My Linh meaning "Pretty gentle spirit"Ahn Ly meaning "Lion with intellectual brightness"Quy Nu meaning "precious girl" OF course I'm assuming I'm pronouncing the VN names correctly!! LOL I'm not good with tonal languages!! I'm hoping to start learning Vietnamese SOON lol I'm only planning on using my choosen VN names if their birthnames don't have a very nice meaning OR if they were just given an orphange name. IF a family name is known I will be keeping that for SURE. Names are so much fun!!! lol
I love Finnian....And the VN name Hai Thanh is BEAUTIFUL. Both in VN and the meaning. One thing I didn't worry about was friends. If we ended up w/ kids the same names, oh well. Now I did back down to a sis-in-law (who may never even get married or have kids! It's not even on the horizon), but only once that name hit the top 10 list!!!
As a school teacher, the more common a name is, the less likely I'll use it. I've had at least one of children with 14/20 names on that list. When you get a bad Matthew, for example, you decide to never name your child Matthew. Occupational hazard, I guess. I've never taught a Dennis, and only taught one Tommy, who was a good, sweet little boy!
HAHAHA I TOTALLY understand what you mean!! LOL I taught pre-K in Los Angeles for 3 years. There are several names I will NEVER be able to use...lol and several that I just dread when I see the file cross my desk(although I was VERY careful to give each child a fresh start despite their name! LOL)

This was something I looked at in 2004 when I brought my 2 home. I just didnt want either of my children to be called by their last name their whole life because there were 4 others in their class.
The funny thing is Sam is the only boy Sam we know, but we have since met at least 4 girl Sams. There are two Samantha's in his class and both go by Sam. So he ends up being "Sam the Boy" when they need to differenciate.
