Okay, this is really a bummer to have to tell the entire adoption.com blogging community this. But. My stats are in the toilet. I was eagerly awaiting the numbers because I made a concerted shift in the way I wrote the titles of my posts hoping that would capture more attention. Umm. It didn't work. In fact, my numbers went down. For the THIRD month in a row. I'm getting discouraged. Somebody, please. Help!

Well, one thing that came to mind for me when I was looking at my stats for the two blogs that I'm doing is that the more posts you write, the more hits you are probably going to get.I'll put my stats out there to make a point.Russian Adoption blog, 43 posts, 11000 or so hits.Hoping to Adopt blog, 20 posts, 4300 or so hits. In my Russian Adoption blog I also have a lot of past blog entries - raising the likelihood that I will get more hits.In my Hoping to Adopt blog I only have this month's worth of posts, although maybe I get hits on the former HtA blogger's posts?Anyway, I am sure there are other things you can do to market your blogs, but the # of posts you have available for people to read has to impact the # of hits you get.Hope this makes sense -Adrienne

thanks so much for responding. as in everything else when there is a problem the place to start is with self. duh. i'm supposed to know that stuff. but, you're probably right on target. i started out posting like gang busters the very first month. then i went through a spell where i was having trouble posting as often as i would like (or am required according to the contract). i'm just now getting my act together to get back on track. i sure hope that helps. again, thanks bunches.
Dr. G. I also notice you are getting lots of comments, so maybe you've got loyal readers? I also notice that I get more comments and maybe hits when I post at the same times each day, and post every day. Nancy also says that the regularity of posting helps. I didn't go up this month, but didn't go down either... Does the summer make a difference? I don't know, just curious.... Maybe the title of your blog, adoptive parenting... isn't specific enough? No new ideas, I'm learning to chart these waters too.Michelle
Maybe having a story that is told over many posts would help. I think it has helped me. I write something that is 900 words and break it into 3 pieces. Each blog ends with a hook to the next one. And I try to post 2 of them on 1 day.Right now I have several series like this on-going. And I participated on various emails lists. My blog link is part of my signature. The discussions on the email lists give me ideas.. I know what subjects are interesting to various folks. There are many different email lists on adoptive parenting. I can post links to them if you want to read what I am talking about. Also I always try to link to one of my older blogs when writing a new blog. One blog leads to another blog thing....
I forgot to mention... I agree with Adrienne's point. In May, I posted 29 blogs and got 9,000In June, I posted 43 blogs and got 13,000Regular.. every day posting really helps the stats. Having good images or GIFs really seems to help. Pictures are a good draw.I found a great site that has some funny free emoticons.http://www.msnmonkey.co.uk/And I like Wikipedia's Commons. They have lots of good images.

Boy... I really cannot finish my thoughts today. Sometimes I start a blog by finding a picture and write around it. I love the image I found for my series on Aggressive children. I am trying to use GIFs and JPG to break up the blog so it isn't just one long chunk of text. I also use BLOCK when I quote items. This helps break the text up too. And I use lists. Recently I did a question/answer blog that I think came out well. Do you know what the number 1 complaint is from adoptive parents? At least this is the one I see over and over. How can I get my child to sleep? I haven't blogged much on this question, but it is a rich subject.
