Hi!! I am a 30 year old mama to a 2.5 year old daughter. I am married and my husband works outside the home, I have chosen to stay home with my daughter until she is school-aged. However, I do have a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's in special education. I have extensive experiences with "typically" developing children as well as children with special needs.
I have always wanted to adopt a child, but never considered fostering. However, after some research, I feel like this is the best route for us. I would preferably like to foster-to-adopt. We would like to foster/adopt a child that is around my daughter's age (no older than 3). We are open to gender, ethnicity, etc.
I am a newbie, as I just contacted the Department of Child Services in our area today. The woman I talked to was incredibly sweet and assigned us to a licensing worker and is sending out training information, etc. in the mail.
Thanks for taking the time to read this!! If anyone has any tips or suggestions, I would appreciate it :) :)
Welcome! We love doc mcstuffins too! We finalized our dd's adoption from fc in september. We had similar parameters to yours. The process can be frustrating ...so keep perspective and a sense of humor through it all. I bet the state will love you since you are so educated and will be home to help the kid (s) placed with you! Good luck.

I'm a few months ahead of you and as most will say - be patient. We lost more than 50% of our training class to people deciding to not continue. Be patient and remember when you're ready to scream that it's for the kids.
Patience is good advice since you will do a lot of waiting. Waiting for paperwork and then processing and then classes and then placement and then next placement. It's all worth it.
Also, decide now if you'd like to work with the county or an FFA (Foster Family Agency) depending on the level of support you want. Good luck to you!
