I was told that we weren't being approved due to my not having had therapy as a child/teen to deal with the abuse that I myself endured. I was told that they wanted us to do a year of respite care first. I was also told that if I get the documentation supporting that I did, indeed, have counseling as a child, that we could revisit the issue of certification.
What has me confused is that they knew about my childhood from day one (started classes in Aug 2005) and during introductions at our first class, I stated that I was a former foster child.
In February, we're told that everything looks great; in March our worker told an investigative worker that she could see no reason we wouldn't be approved to foster (we were then in the process of getting the grandchildren - 2 - through Kinship care); in April, our worker tells me that the supervisor has a few requests for additional information in our homestudy but not to worry as she and I had already covered all of it; then this month I'm told that we can't foster due to not having paperwork that they never requested or mentioned needing.
It just seems off to me, like there's something more there that they just aren't wanting to discuss.
Can I request a copy of our homestudy? And if I do, will they give it to me???
Thanks,
Donna

in arizona you can not get a copy, but you can request to review home study which i have done. some mistakes can be found and corrected if your agency is willing to cooperate. if they are not cooperative there are other agencies that are willing to help you. stick to it. all will work out in the end. good luck
Hi there - I had to make the request on a special form but was able to get a copy of it. Upon reviewing it, I learned that there were some major errors on it which the agency not only refused to correct but insisted I go through counseling for. I repeatedly tried to explain over and over that these things did NOT happen but the supervisor didn't care and insisted that I go through counseling anyway. I did meet with a therapist twice at which time he told me there was absolutely not reason for me to be there and said he would sign whatever type of letter i needed.
That still didn't work though - I ended up having to hire an attorney and forced our way in front of the Judge who ruled in my favor. As a result of this, I was able to adopt the oldest in the sibling group. But when the next oldest wanted me to adopt her, the Cabinet again started saying no and made me go thru the process all over again. This time though, I ended up speaking to the head person of the unit in the state capitol who made a few calls and before long the Cabinet was giving in again and I just adopted that daughter last month.
Point in all of this is to never, ever give up no matter the odds.
