I broached the subject of my daughters birthday with her via e-mail.
She said that she and her mother spend her birthday every year, alone, seeing A Christmas Carol together.
I suppose that means that I won't be with her for her birthday.
You know what? Sometimes I wish we hadn't reunited, so to speak. Just gives other pains at times.
Oh well, I suppose I will just have to live with it.
I'll send a card via post

I am so sorry. Maybe you could ask if it would work to do something the day before or after.

I'm sorry that you are hurt by this.
It is important to respect your daughters traditions, they mean alot to her and her family. She came to this reunion with a history. Perhaps you can take this opportunity to start your own tradition?
Of course a card is lovely....but can you maybe think up a plan for the two or you? Side by side pedicures? Shopping? A movie?
You may not get "the" day.....but maybe the following weekend? or the one before?
Just a thought.
dcma,
I sorry for your delema but traditions can be changed. Perhaps you and your daughter might go to a place she has never been and you could start that as your and her's own tradition's. I wish you all the best keep us posted.

thanx for the encouragement. I appreciate it.
I've already planned a gift for her that is special.
Winter travelling, brrrr. Not looking forwards to that. lol
I suppose somewhere around that time, I will be able to travel and see her. Hard in December with all the shopping and ghastly weather. But, I'll manage.
I'll just send a card to be sure she gets it on her birthday.

okay BIG BIG QUESTION about the birthday again.
Is it inappropriate to have the card "For Daughter"?
I don't want to step on her mothers toes in any way shape or form.
Plus I don't want to give my daughter the impression I'm trying to take over or , just as bad, being "needy".
thanx,

I wouldn't worry about her mother so much as your daughter's feelings on the matter.
Only you would know her comfort level.
If she has used the term around you before, I see absolutely no issue with it..
If she has a history of avoiding that title....I don't know....
