I've been hearing a lot of stories about how long the wait is for a child to be placed. I'm hoping to adopt an AA boy ages 6-8. I'm AA also. From wait I see in the photolistings, there is an abundance of AA boys. Is the wait shorter for them? I'm in the state of Georgia and will be starting my IMPACT classes on Sept. 9. Also has anyone adopted a child from the My Turn Now Photolisting?
I've adopted from foster care but I hear that DSS/Child Services want to get these boys into homes so it shouldn't be too long. Good luck!!

I'm also looking to adopt in that age group, would welcome an AA boy. My homestudy was completed in July, officially signed off on in early August...here it is October, and NOTHING. I am not even sure my sw has sent off my homestudy to anyone. Every child in that age group on our state photolisting is snapped up immediately, or has very severe medical needs. I was able to send my hs on my own to a sw in Ohio for a young boy, but i'm not hopeful i'll be chosen, i'm sure they've gotten tons of inquiries on him. I also have plans on sending out my hs on other out-of-state kids as well, but my sw didnt sound to keen on sending them out herself.
I'm considering opening up my age limits or changing to siblings. I have a 10 yr old son so thats a consideration. But i really thought, when i started this process, that there was many AA boys of this age group in the system, and i guess i was naive.

doesnt matter the color, just matters if TPR was done. If the TPR was done on any child, then the process will be much faster.

I thought the OP meant, though, is the wait shorter---not for any particular one child---but is her wait to be matched shorter. On my state photolisting there is an abundance of AA boys over 11. In fact, there are about 3 pages of girls profiles, and about 8 or 9 pages of boys profiles. Therefore, i would say that if you want a boy, your wait will likely be shorter than if you want a girl. If you are willing to adopt an AA teenage boy, your wait will be shorter than if you want to adopt a white girl under 5 (good luck on that one!)
My confusion/frustration is that i really thought there would be more AA boys between 5-8 yrs available. Every AA boy on our state photolisting that has been listed has been placed almost immediately, before i could even get my worker to call on him. Right now, the only boys under 8 are three white boys, who seem to have extreme needs. The biggest age group available seems to be 11-14, so i am thinking of expanding my criteria.
