This question may be stupid, but here I go, where do you find Birth index records and what information do they have? I am in KC metropolitan area, Jackson County is where the adoption took place, but I need to look for more possibilities than the lastname that a helper gave me... I am not making progress and maybe a typo can be the obstacle. Tks, Velia

Velisa, in many states Birth Indexes are kept from public access. I remember some years back Texas published their B.I. for the libraries but was soon discovered adoptees where using it to search and find thier birth mothers, so the B.I.s quickly got pulled off the shelves. Since you have a last name have you check thru the Polk City Directories around the year of your birth?

Hmm that is an easy one for me. I did not find out I was adopted until I was 35. I had always been told that I looked like several family members. After I found out, I took some time to get my head wrapped around my adoption. Kinda hard to understand after so much time had passed. :eek:I had to investigate who I really did look like and acted like. My medical history was all wrong too, since I went by amom & adad's. That needed to be cleared up. Boy was I glad that I did too! I found out why I am unable to have children.
