I was doing some research last night and I saw that birth mothers can name their child when they have them. Am I going to be able to name the child that I am adopting since I am getting a newborn or what?? I always thought that I would be able to name the baby that we are adopting but I got kind of upset last night when I read that the birth mother can name the child. How does this work?
BTW:
This is a domestic Dept. Of Social Services Adoption of a newborn.
Hello...It's me again,
Our daughter was born out of state and the adoption was completed in that state. We did rename her after the Bmom gave her a name. I liked the original name and now wish that I had incorporated a portion of it into the name that we gave our daughter. It would have been a piece of her past that connected her to her bmom.
Have you talked w/ your DSS representative about how long it will take you to get a placement of a newborn, especially if you are only open to CC? I do not know what you have asked for, but when we went through the process, we were eventually told that we would be waiting a LONG time if we only wanted a caucasian newborn. If you are interested in an African American child your wait may be considerably less.

I asked the worker about the wait and she told me that they never know how long it could be before we get a newborn that is CC. She said that after we are put on the waiting list that it could be 2 minutes, 2 months, or 2 years. She told me that she can not put a time limit on it because they never know for sure until it happens. What did you have to do to change your child's name after the bmom had already named her?? How long were you on the waiting list before your got a baby? Did you adopt a CC or what? Thanks!
