Hi! I'm new to this whole thing. I've been meaning to find out more about my birth family ever since I was a kid. I was told I had to wait until I was 18 to be able to do anything about it though. I've been putting it off ever since then for various reasons. I wish I had done this years ago, but I don't know if I would have been ready to do it then. I'm now 30 and one of my New Year's resolutions is to finally get out there and find out where I come from! Thing is, I haven't any idea how to go about getting my adoption records or anything! Can any of you help me out?
Also, I'm not really sure if I want a relationship with my birth family...I mean, my adoptive family is wonderful, and to be perfectly honest, my birth family might feel like strangers to me. Plus, I've heard of several reunions that went sour. I don't want that to happen with me. I don't want to disrupt their lives. If they don't want a relationship with me, that's fine. However, I DO want to know my heritage and medical information. It just seems so complicated and difficult from where I'm standing. How do I get the information I want and not interfere in their lives?
Any advice or information would be most appreciated!

I think the best place to start is with your parents see what kind of information they can give you. Was your adoption through an agency? Maybe they can help as well.
On another note, just my opinion I can't to be reunited with my son, if that is what he wants. I wish you all the best of luck and hopefully you will get the answers you need, there are so many people on this site that can help you, and give you some great advice.
