Home improvement grants?

I was told there are such things as one time home improvement grants for things such as additions and so forth. Local organizations are not what I need. Where I am, there are 100's near and would help with things like, clothes, furnature, food and things like that. This is not what I need. I would love to have the option to get larger sibling groups. We would have to be approved for the exception for # of children in our home, which I am told is not hard to do, esp with folks like us, our attitude, history of large family etc. We already have to one side of our house the garage, that is same level as the basement, that we could put a room over, and the back porch is built over a foundation. Or our basement is VERY large, and could easily be sectioned off to create a bedroom. But where are these orgainziations?? Or famous folks??? etc?
