Hi~
Yes, MAPP classes are for 10 weeks - 30hours of training is needed.
We were hoping that our county would offer the weekend courses but they didn't. We wanted to hurry because we had an ICPC for our sons 13yo friend who we had to leave in another state when we moved.
In hindsight, it all has worked out for the best and I think the classes spread over the 10 weeks is overall a good idea because there is alot of information to absorb. But I still wish they could offer a speedier way for certain cases.
They day the classes are held varies. Ours so happened to be on Thurs. nights and messed up my Survivor watching=)

My husband and I had an exception made so that we could attend the classes seperately so that one of us was always at home with our bio son. His classes are during the week for 3 hours for 10 weeks and mine are on Saturday for 6 hours for 6 weeks. I heard someone got theirs done in a week...I don't think I could do that. The information is a lot and then dealing with the emotions is a lot too. It's hard to hear and see real life stories about kids getting hurt - of course you hear about it, but I never really seemed to make it real to me...I'd rather just not think about it, but I'm going to have to - to be able to help a little one that's been through it.
We did ours in 8 weeks, it was 10 classes but they combined 2 of the classes with the others...this was something new that they started...and 3 hours a night one night a week... wasnt too bad...the paper work was a killer though....the make you fill out the same questions on different sheets...they only would give us some of the papers every week...they know more about us than our own family...be prepared to discuss everything from your sexual compatability with your husband to other personal things...I couldn't believe some of the questions...but we made it through the process...good luck to you...mom of 6
My MAPP class was only one week long (so you're probably referring to me), but none of the classes in my county are longer than 4-6 weeks...All of them are accelerated...
I didn't mind doing it all in one week, because I was already quite aware of the things that they discussed..almost none of it was a surprise or anything new for me. (other than some florida specific or agency policies that I didn't know about)
I have been absorbed into the adoption/foster care community for many years now and I have known that I would adopt since I was 8 y/o..so I have been educating myself for many, many years...
The paperwork really didn't take me that long to fill out either as I had already given much thought to just about every question that was in teh Family Profile over the years
But I am an exception....Most people don't know they are going to adopt when they are 8, so I am sure they probably haven't put the years of thought into it that I have. ..(lol)
I wish you luck on your classes!!!

Our Mapp class was 3 weeks long...3 Saturdays for 8 hrs each day. The 10 wk class is 3 hrs for 10 wks. Ours was supposed to be 4 Saturdays (shortened version) but because of Labor Day (September) they had us do it for 3 Saturdays and squeezed it into 3 full days because they wanted it all completed by end of September. So, no they have different classes and timeframes. They don't HAVE to make you sit there for 30 hrs as long as they can condense all the information. It was much easier then going for 10 wks considering we needed our license ASAP to send to another state to pursue our Niece in foster care there. Did you ask about their next condensed version Mapp class? They may offer that too.

My husband and I just started the MAPP classes here in Duval County (Jacksonville) and this particular class is running every Tues and Thurs in Feb, from 5:30-8:30pm, and there's also 2 Sats in Feb from 9-12 I believe.
