From what I have been reading, it says you have to stay 3-5 weeks in Ukraine. Can you split up your trip (go twice). Also, did anyone bring their 3 or 4 year old child with them when traveling to Ukraine? Is it safe to drink the water and eat their food? Thanks most sincerely, Susan :flowergift:

There has been many changes in adoption laws and procedures in Ukriane. That usually effects length of stay towards longer rather then shorted end. Staying in Ukraine vs splitting trip in 2 likely would depend on time you can afford to have off, cost of tickets to fly back and forth vs cost of stay in Ukraine. We adopted a while back, but our trip even in 2002 took 1 month (paperwork glitches). We opted to stay because we could job-wise and money wise it was cheaper for us then flight home and back. Everyone's situation is different though. We accepted our first referral. If we had to spend more time looking, that would have undoubtedly effected our length of stay and cost. As for small children traveling - that is something best answered by someone who had their child travel with them. We were renting an apartment so we did our own cooking. We ate out a couple of times without any ill effects. It is suggested that you buy bottled water for drinking and brushing teeth. We were told after the fact that eggs should be hard boiled. We made a mistake of frying them. That is when we got 24 hour "something" . Overall we had a wonderfull time.

We drank bottled water. They have carbonated and non-carbonated bottled water, ask for water with NO GAS.
We ate the Ukrainian food. We lived with a host family and the lady was a wonderful cook, and she prepared traditional Ukrainian meals. We also ate in resturants.
We had No intestinal problems.
This was in 2001 and our 1st child, so we did not have to worry about a child at home at that time. Personally, I would not want to take a small child on the trip. There are others who have and are glad they did. It is a long hard trip.
We returned on New Year's Eve with our 2 daughters. We were gone 5 weeks door to door. It is possible to make it in 2 trips. You are free to leave after court for the 10 day wait. We did not drink the water, only used bottled. We had an apartment so we were able to cook our own food. We did eat out a few times without any ill effects. We took our sons who are school age. It was good to have them with us, but they did not enjoy the experience as much as we had hoped that they would.
