Hi, I just attended a MAPP orientation in Polk County and just learned that in addition to the 30 hour MAPP class I will have to take a 15-hour positive parenting course. Does anyone know anything about this course. It sounds as if this is either new or an experiment. I'm pretty bummed by the whole thing because that means my next 7 saturdays will be filled with these classes... which means my weekends are going to be rather quiet for the next 2 months.

I didn't think the positive parenting course was mandatory. At least it's not mandatory here in Pinellas county. I do know that you can take it as part of your yearly re-licensing or if you'd like take courses at

we're allowed to do this as long as we document and provide proof that we've taken the 16 hours of training required for re-licensing. Just check with your licensing specialist.

Our licensing specialist was out today and confirmed what I wrote. We also found out that by reading these posts and learning what others have gone through is considered training as well. Who would have thunk :-)
Thanks. They were pretty clear that it was mandatory although I wish it weren't. I'm not excited about the additional time especially since they didn't tell us about until the orientation last week even though I was "approved" for this course in early January.
I'll have to check on the online training since I'm a avid lurker! That would be an advantage.
Ugh, that just doesn't seem fair. We've touched a bit on positive parenting in our MAPP classes in Duval county, but I guess that's all we need in their opinion. I am actually reading books about it. I wish you had that option.
