Hi all - I'm very new to all of this. We were planning on international adoption but some friends have urged us to think more seriously about domestic. I think the reason I was so scared of domestic is because I have such fears of the birthmother changing her mind after I have cared for a baby for 6+ months. I just don't know if I have it in me to care for and then lose a baby. But then another person told me that in Texas the laws make it harder for the birthmom to change her mind. Now, I don't know if that's actually the best thing for everyone involved (and I'm not trying to start a debate about that) but it certainly makes me more open to/excited about the idea of domestic adoption!
Can anyone tell me whether that really is true?
Can you tell me about which agencies are ethical and experienced?
Are there any agencies that screen for drug/alcohol use in birthmothers so potential adoptive parents can make informed decisions?
I actually live in another state so would be doing an out-of-state adoption.
Thanks for any insights you guys have!!

I guess I should have said "PM me" for agency recs. I think we're not supposed to talk specific agency pros/cons in these threads.
Also, I wanted to add that I've heard that there are some agencies that match up birth mom/adoptive family rather than having the birth mom select the family. So adoptive families just get in line and wait their turn. Anyone heard of this or know which agencies do that?
Thanks!
